About the Publisher

Hypergraphic Press is a unique achievement embodying both the possibilities of a 21st century world and an idea as old as entrepreneurship itself:  the family business.  The name was derived from the medical term "hypergraphia" – the compulsive urge to write and write when one has a story to tell.  In our case, the story is Psychology Applied to Work.

Psychology Applied to Work is the most successful textbook in the history of industrial/organizational psychology.  The first eight editions were released by some of the largest publishing companies in the world and have served to educate students for over 25 years.  Hypergraphic Press is thus a start-up company with the good fortune to publish the worldwide market-leading product in I/O psychology.

However, there is more to the Hypergraphic Press story than good fortune.  Author Paul Muchinsky  wanted to publish his work on his own. Unfortunately, Dr. Muchinsky's expertise is primarily limited to two bodies of knowledge: I/O psychology and baseball.  He needed help with two major facets of the publishing industry: navigating the logistics of getting a finished product to the thousands of students who purchase and use the text every year, and the legal advice necessary for a business of this size and scope.

As fate would have it, Dr. Muchinsky has two children.  Andrea Muchinsky has one Master's Degree in Operations Research, a second in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and is a successful practitioner in the field.  Brian Muchinsky has a law degree from the University of Washington and several years in private practice advising businesses.  Hypergraphic Press was born.

Despite living in three different states spanning three time zones, the Muchinskys succeeded not only in publishing the 9th Edition of Psychology Applied to Work, but also making it the best edition yet.  Hypergraphic Press is very proud to continue the uninterrupted market presence of Psychology Applied to Work and will continue to serve the needs of instructors and students of I/O psychology well into the future.
